Prior to 1950’s, there existed no classification for diseases in which a person’s immune system attacks his or her own cells and tissue. Since that time, not only has the identification and study of these types of diseases increased considerably, but the number of individuals suffering from them has grown exponentially.
Today, there are over 100 different diseases classified as autoimmune, including these well-known illnesses:
- Alopecia
- Celiac
- Crohn’s disease
- Endometriosis
- Fybromyalgia
- Graves’ disease
- Guillain-Barre syndrome
- Lupus
- Lyme
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Narcolepsy
- Psoriasis
- Rheumatic Fever
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Ulcerative colitis
CMSRI has been active in supporting research into the causes of this growing epidemic of autoimmune diseases through the funding of research grants and international conferences that bring together leaders in science and medicine at the world’s top research universities to share their studies and to advance joint research projects.
From these collaborations came the first medical textbook on the link between vaccines and autoimmune disease, entitled “Vaccines and Autoimmunity.” To download a summary of each of the studies in the textbook, click on the image below.
