Canada Rent Increase 2024 Provinces Wise
The provincial and territorial governments are responsible to set the guidelines and limit on the rents such as how much the rent can be increased every year, minimum notice period for the tenants which must be provided by the landlord before increasing the rent, etc. Thus, you must be aware of the rental increase in the province or territory in which you are living:
- Ontario: As of 2024, the rental rates in Ontario is increased up to 2.5% for the tenants.

- Alberta: For both new and old renters, living in Alberta became a major complication due to housing crisis in the province. - New Brunswick: The rent rates in New Brunswick in 2023 was increased by 5.5% and as of 2024 the rental rates increase is approved at 2.8%.
- Newfoundland and Labrador: The province of Newfoundland and Labrador does not have a limit for rent increase by the landlords. However, if you are living in Newfoundland and Labrador, then you are advised to check the guidelines on when and how much a landlord can increase rent in the province provided by the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA).
